Treatment centres for HIV/AIDS patients

Akwa Ibom State government has ear-marked three centres in the state for free medical treatment of HIV/AIDS patients in the state.

The centres for the free medical treatment which begins today are located at General Hospitals of Oron, Ikot Ekpene and Etinan respectively.

 
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Okon Emah who gave the hint in Uyo while receiving the State Project Manager of Family Health International, Dr. Sylvester Ebaye stated that, the free medical treatment would be offered by the federal government through the National Action Committee Against AIDS (NACA).

He also noted that, the exercise was in collaboration with the Global Fund Round Five as one of the financiers of the health project in Nigeria.
The State Project Manager of Family Health International, Dr. Sylvester Ebaye in his remarks, explained that the three treatment sites in the state would have two Primary Health Centres in each locality which would be referring people to the treatment sites.

Dr. Ebaye further noted that Akwa Ibom was one of the 12 states in the federation that would benefit from the Global Fund Round Five project.

He however, appealed for the formation of sites and cluster committees for the programme to succeed in the state.
