Education, adequate tool to fight HIV/AIDS -Ezekwesili

Minister of Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili Tuesday said adequate education and awareness should be the most effective weapon to curb the nagging problem of HIV/AIDs.

According to the statement made available to Daily Champion the minister stated this at the opening session of the two-day stakeholders meeting held in Abuja on HIV/AIDs Initiative for Tertiary Institutions.

 
According to Ezekwesili, the imperativeness of the impact of the knowledge on people was such that it is only adequate awareness that can enable people make informed choices of how to avoid contracting HIV/AIDs.

While commending the efforts of Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin-led National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDs (NACA), the minister said that the efforts of NACA in the Curriculum area of tertiary institutions was still inadequate.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Prof. Osotimehin said, the stakeholders forum was a very welcome development that would strengthen NACA's fight against HIV/AIDs on Campuses. "We want to confidently look forward to interactive free atmosphere on our campuses to discuss HIV/AIDs issues", he said.
