Japan provides aids to local NGOs

Two NGO's, AIDS Network Project, Jikwoyi-Abuja and Ohuhu Ikeala Nsulu Autonomous Community in Abia, have benefited from Japan's generosity with a total amount of USD126,817 for the construction of a Vocational Center for Women and Vulnerable Children, and primary school blocks.
At the contract signing ceremony, the Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria, Mr. Akio Tanaka that the works of the two NGO's should be encouraged as Japan is committed to 'helping the less privileged in these days of our prosperity', having been a country that knows what poverty means.
He added that the embassy is optimistic that the assistance will contribute to the achievement of the MDG's in Nigeria and strengthen the friendly ties between the two nations.
Tanaka however warned that the embassy will constantly monitor the use of the money to make sure it is being used for the purpose for which it was intended.
The Project Director of the AIDS Network Project, Blessing Eku, while expressing appreciation to Japan, told the Ambassador that the Center sells the crafts and jewellery made by the women and children to raise funds for the center, at conferences and exhibitions.
